All the Trimmings at Festival of Trees

One of the best parts of Festival of Trees is that it gives those groups who meet at the arts council an opportunity to show the community what they do and maybe find like-minded folks to join them. This year, the woodcarvers group donated a beautiful Nativity scene for our raffle and hand-carved ornaments to offer for sale with the proceeds to go to the BAC. This year a new group started meeting on Thursday mornings. Most of the members are pursuing an interest in watercolor painting, others in acrylics. The group presented the BAC with a basket of beautiful note cards to offer for sale, some of which are pictured here. These are very reasonably priced at $2 each or six for $10. Again, all the proceeds go to the arts council. The cards are going quickly, so stop in soon to check them out.

Incidentally, we also have homegrown chopped walnuts, homemade relish and desk top decorated trees for sale as well through December 11 or while supplies last.

We Have A Sign!

After over a year without an identity, our new signs arrived on Monday! While the name of our organization changed in 1992 to the Brookings Arts Council, many people call it anything but that. Our phone listing will continue to be under both the Brookings Arts Council and the Community Cultural Center (which is what the City named the building), but we will be a bit more persistent about our correct name now that we have a wonderful sign to proclaim it.

Please stop by in the coming weeks to celebrate not only our new landscaping and signs, but also the Festival of Trees. Tonight, Friday, November 25 we will be having our Member's Only Preview and Reception from 6-8 pm. If you're not a member, stop by and become a member! Our yearly memberships start at $10 for students and seniors.

The public opening is Saturday, November 26 from 4 to 8 pm. This time has been a family tradition around Brookings for years. So even though the Parade of Lights is not until December 1, please stop in and enjoy our trees, hand-carved ornaments, silent auction, raffle and some nice surprises.

We will be open 7 days a week until Sunday, December 11 at 8 pm.

Sunday, November 27 - Noon to 5 pm
Monday, November 28 - Saturday, December 10 - Noon to 6 pm (except Thursday, December 1 Noon to 9 pm for the Parade of Lights)
Sunday, December 11 - Noon to 8 pm

Dakota Prairie Woodcarvers' Nativity Scene Raffle Tickets For Sale

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas around the arts council these days. Just yesterday, the Dakota Prairie Woodcarvers brought in the last piece to their hard-carved Nativity Scene. As many of you know,  each year we offer one of their delightful works of art as our adult raffle. This year is no different. We already have raffle tickets ready for sale: $1 each or 6 for $5. So grab a handful of address labels and stop down and take a look! Even though Festival of Trees doesn't open until after Thanksgiving, you can purchase your raffle tickets now. The drawing will be held at 8 pm on Sunday, December 11 at the close of the Festival. You need not be present to win.
